Second graders have completed the following scavenger hunt in their classroom or in the computer lab. They have worked cooperatively in small groups or pairs to find the following information. Geologists: Exploration Date: Click on "What are Rocks, Minerals, Gemstones, and Crystal's?" Read the information to find the answers to these questions. 1. Rocks are constsntly forming, wearing down (eroding), and forming again very slowly. This is called: 2. What is larger, taller than a person? 3. What are tiny pieces of rock? 4. What is really fine powder that is mixed in with sand and soil? Now click the side bar, "How Rocks Are Formed". Explore and research the three different types of rocks. 1. Igneous What does this mean? What is liquid rock called? Name two types of igneous rocks:   2.Sedimentary How are sedimentary rocks formed? What can sedimentary rocks have in them? Plants deposited in sedimentary rocks turn to carbon. How do we use them? 3. Metamorphic What does metamorphic mean? How are these rocks formed?
